Getting rusty already!
So this week I’ve been working in a computer shop in Blackpool, covering for a member of staff who is away on holiday. When I first went to the shop I noticed a sign for foundation BSL courses on the till, being run by Fylde Coast BSL. When I asked who put the poster up, I found out that Jan (my level two teacher) was actually a regular at the shop!
Today, Jan came in with a bit of a problem with some ink cartridges, and it really highlighted to me how rusty my signing has become in such a short space of time.
I really struggled with basics like “how long” and “how much” and even my numbers!
Since finishing level two I’ve signed maybe once or twice, but have been signing along to songs but only in my head.
Trying to hold a general conversation today I’ve realised I definitely need to practice with other people and not just in front of a mirror in order to try and increase my vocabulary and keep my eye in!
I’m starting level three later on this month so hoping to make it along to a few sign sessions before then, either at The Crown coffee mornings, or at the Devonshire Arms. I might even eventually make it along to BSL karaoke!
Really looking forward to getting back into my signing with level three, even though I’m a bit worried I won’t be as good as the others in my class! Hopefully it will all come flooding back soon!
Lally.
